  • Margaret Carpenter Recreation Center | Pinkard Construction | Colorado

Pinkard provided expert construction services for City of Thornton on the Margaret Carpenter Recreation Center project. Margaret Carpenter Recreation Center Thornton, CO, USA City of Thornton 11,837 Sq. Ft. Public Projects, Recreation, Indoor Pool, Renovation, Ground Up The completed facility includes a new six-lane lap pool with an adjacent aqua-exercise pool, a wave pool with a lazy river and bubble pit, an activity pool with zero-depth entry, a play structure, geysers, and sprays, a water slide, and a 20-person therapeutic hydro-jet spa. The universal locker room expansion better serves families and individuals with special needs, increasing accessibility for all. The recreation center remained open to the public throughout construction. To ensure guest and staff safety and minimize impacts on daily operations, Pinkard implemented exceptional safety and operational protocols. The team took great pains identifying, procuring and storing long lead items well in advance. Items that arrived early were typically stored either onsite or at company warehouses, greatly mitigating most COVID-related delays. Pinkard's strong relationships with the best pool contractors in Colorado allowed us to work with the best value-added contractors in the business. In addition to our punch list requirements, our pool contractor employed a custom punch list that covered the extensive tile, formwork, and rebar. We meticulously reviewed our punch expectations with the entire team before pouring concrete and leading into rebar inspections. With 30 tons of rebar in the lap pool alone, this attention to detail ensured that Thornton would have the best concrete pours possible. Pinkard also enlisted the skills of one of the best pool tile contractors in the business. This subcontractor had teamed with our pool contractor for more than 17 years. Their skill, team chemistry, and collaboration ensured that all the laser-leveled tile was within a very tight 1/16th inch. The great finish we enjoyed is a credit to Ensign, Pinkard, and Intergroup Architects’ strong commitment to team-building...it saved this project. Sloan’s Lake and Ensign are very proud of what this team was able to accomplish, and this facility is already making a difference in our patients’ lives.” See The Project On time, on budget "Our mutual client, Denver Health, remains extremely pleased with this impressive facility and its impact on the community. We appreciate Pinkard Construction Company's on-time, on-budget, high quality delivery of the Wellington E. Webb Center for Primary Care." See the Project Getting Procore Right "Over the years, we’ve had a lot of contractors use Procore on our projects. However, none of them have been able to figure out how to make Procore send us an email that has a single-click embedded link to download the one file that has the submittal or RFI, including its transmittal/cover sheet. They struggle to combine the submittals with their transmittals, and many struggle with correctly naming the PDF. From what I see from your emails, Dave, you’ve figured all of this out. If you could send me the steps on how to set up Procore to do this, we can share it with our other project contractors and see if they can get it right." See the Project Pleased with Pinkard's partnering "I was very pleased with Pinkard’s partnering. If we had issues with quality or schedule Pinkard would drop what they were doing to meet with me. Pinkard was the original general contractor water park when it was first built in 1991, making it one of the first community water parks in the Denver metro area. After 30 years of use, the facility was in need of renovation due to age, condition, and updated health and building codes. In 2022, BHA Design, Inc. and their team, including aquatics architect Counsilman-Hunsaker, were selected to design the project. After funding was secured, Pinkard was awarded the project in February 2024. The $10 million “Phase IV” renovation includes the removal and replacement of the primary leisure pool, family slide, body slides, and slide plunge pool, along with the addition of deck space, shade structures, and a new mechanical building. • Pinkard Completes Five-year Senior Living Capital Improvements Project in Cherry Creek

Pinkard Completes Five-year Senior Living Capital Improvements Project in Cherry Creek Pinkard Completes Five-year Senior Living Capital Improvements Project in Cherry Creek March 12, 2024 Share Share DENVER - Pinkard Construction, a leading full-service construction company, announced the successful completion of a major renovation project at Kavod Senior Life apartment homes in Cherry Creek. The project, which began in 2019, involved the renovation and reconfiguration of 396 residential kitchens, the installation of pull-out shelving in select base cabinets, and the replacement of existing bathtubs with walk-in acrylic-type shower pans and surrounds in more than 100 residential units. In addition, the project included replacing existing door hardware, lowering thermostats, installing a coffee/bistro station, and building the West Building property management offices and the adjacent laundry facility. The project also included the installation of new mechanical systems and air conditioning in the Health and Wellness Center in the West Building and the Shul Classroom in the East Building. Pinkard also managed a major code-related owner upgrade, adding a complete fire alarm and sprinkler system well after construction commencement. Conducted during the heart of the COVID-19 pandemic, this fully occupied renovation faced many supply chain and quarantine-related issues. When word came down in March 2020 that the building would have to be vacated, Pinkard collaborated with Kavod management to devise a socially distanced workplan to allow construction to continue in non-residential space. This plan allowed Pinkard to complete all commercial and public spaces in the three towers while avoiding any contact with residents or staff. These (non-critical path) activities, which accounted for almost half the allotted scope, allowed construction to continue, saving valuable time and owner savings. To accommodate the owner’s budget, Pinkard made staffing adjustments to only cover direct expenses related to general conditions. "We are thrilled to have successfully completed this project at Kavod Senior Living and Assisted Living apartment homes. With a pandemic thrown in the middle of an occupied senior living project, this was a critical issue," said Tony Burke, president at Pinkard Construction. “I know our crews took special care to ensure that Kavod could remain open and operational.” “I’ve worked with a lot of construction companies over the years,” said COO Tracy Kapaun, “Pinkard is hands down the best. The members of this team were total professionals.” Pinkard Construction has established a reputation for delivering high-quality construction projects across a range of sectors, including education, healthcare, senior living, and multifamily housing. The company's commitment to safety, sustainability, and innovation has made it a trusted partner for clients across the Colorado Front Range. Kavod Senior Life provides life-enriching experiences to older adults through a broad range of housing and support services that reflect the spiritual, social and cultural values of Jewish tradition. • Pinkard Completes Jacoby Meadows Affordable Senior Apartments

Pinkard Completes Jacoby Meadows Affordable Senior Apartments Pinkard Completes Jacoby Meadows Affordable Senior Apartments October 24, 2025 Share Share Pinkard Construction has completed Phase I of the Jacoby Meadows Senior Affordable Apartments project for Windsor Housing Authority’s (WHA). The milestone was celebrated with a ceremonial ribbon cutting at the project site earlier this week. “Jacoby Meadows will provide safe, affordable housing for seniors, helping to enrich our community,” said Windsor Mayor Julie Cline in her remarks, acknowledging the long, nine-year process of turning the development into a reality. “With today's addition of Jacoby Meadows, the Town of Windsor will now have over 200 affordable housing units in our community... I'm proud to what we can accomplish when everyone puts their heart into a worthwhile project.” Developed by partnership of Pinkard Construction, Windsor Housing Authority, Loveland Housing Authority (LHA) and WORKSHOP8 Architecture, the two-phased project initially creates 62 units serving low to moderate income seniors (30-80% of area median income) over the age of 55. The second phase, which is still seeking funding, will add an additional 61 units. Despite several early challenging unforeseen conditions and numerous inclement weather days the 13-month, $18 million project finished on time and in budget, thanks in part to some creative construction brainstorming and a state-of-the-art approach to wood framing. During the sewer tie-in phase, construction crews encountered an unexpected “bedrock-like layer” that stopped just short of requiring blasting to penetrate. During the actual sewer tie-ins, unexpected groundwater became an additional concern, requiring an extended dewatering phase. To keep the project in budget given those unforeseen conditions, the owner-architect-contractor (OAC) team had to work collaboratively to find value engineering solutions as the project progressed. In one such solution, the OAC team was able to find a quarter of a million dollars in savings by switching exterior siding systems. Similarly, Pinkard's in-house wood framing division, Pinkard Frameworks, provided exceptional construction efficiencies to keep the project on schedule. Tasked with providing more than 63,000 sf of framing for the three-story complex, the Frameworks team began an exhaustive constructability and quality control effort during preconstruction, thoroughly vetting the framing design for layout, detailing, fit and finish. Procurement and site logistics were also high priorities, resulting in the team making expeditious progress from the start of construction and completing most of the framing in less than two months, even with 13 weather days. “Self-performing the framing in-house is so beneficial,” says Pinkard Project Manager Reid Kalsow. “We had our framing superintendent on-site early, working with the concrete contractor to make sure the embeds and hold-downs were installed just right, so that when framing started there were no hiccups. As a result, we got a better-quality structure framed at a faster pace.” Eric Hull, Director of Real Estate Development for Loveland Housing Authority, commented: "Today, we celebrate the power of partnership. The completion of Jacoby Meadows Phase I was made possible through the dedication of our investors, the crucial support of the Town of Windsor, and the unwavering commitment of the Colorado Housing and Finance Authority (CHFA) and the Colorado Division of Housing (CDOH). For seniors aged 55+ earning 30%-80% of the Area Median Income, this building represents stability and a vibrant community where residents can thrive for years to come. Pinkard Construction did another outstanding job of bringing to life the designs that were collaboratively developed by Workshop8 (Architecture), TB Group (Land Planning and Landscape Architecture), and EPS Group (Civil Engineering).” The community is named after John “Johnny” Jacoby, a beloved Windsor resident who was senselessly gunned down in 2015 while riding his bike near the building site, in a case that remains unsolved today. As part of the project, the Johnny Jacoby memorial statue was moved to its new permanent home in front of the building’s main entrance, along with a commemorative plaque. Jacoby’s family also spoke at the ribbon cutting. “We just want to always uphold Johnny's memory,” added LHA’s Eric Hull, “and we're just thrilled for the opportunity to honor his legacy with this project and help keep that alive.” Learn More Senior Living Construction See Projects Affordable Housing Construction See Projects Colorado Wood Framing Specialists See Projects Jacoby Meadows Senior Apartments Learn More Share This Story Share Share More News Sort By Topic Reset Pinkard Breaks Ground on Buchanan Rec Center Aquatics Expansion April 2, 2026 Learn More Pinkard Completes The Irving at Mile High Vista Affordable Apartments January 22, 2026 Learn More Pinkard and The Action Center Begin Emory School Transformation March 9, 2026 Learn More Pinkard 2025: The Year in Pictures December 30, 2025 Learn More Load More Our Approach Partner, Plan, BUILD. "Over the years, we’ve had a lot of contractors use Procore on our projects. If you could send me the steps on how to set up Procore to do this, we can share it with our other project contractors and see if they can get it right." • Pinkard Guest Lecturers Kick Off Inaugural DU Affordable Housing Program

Pinkard Guest Lecturers Kick Off Inaugural DU Affordable Housing Program Pinkard Guest Lecturers Kick Off Inaugural DU Affordable Housing Program April 30, 2025 Share Share Members of Pinkard Construction’s operations and preconstruction departments recently served as guest lecturers at the University of Denver, presenting their perspectives for the Design, Build, and Operate module of DU’s Executive Certificate in Affordable Housing program. Chief Preconstruction Manager Leighton Neff and Construction Manager Joe Revielle, both veteran affordable housing specialists, shared their experiences to a diverse class of 25 professionals currently working in the affordable housing sector. The student group was comprised of real estate professionals, developers, planners, policy makers, housing advocates, attorneys, civic leaders, property managers, architects, and lenders looking to expand their understanding of the complexities of the affordable housing world. Currently in its inaugural year, DU’s nine-month certification program provides these participants with a focused and fast-tracked pathway to learn the complexities of affordable housing development and the practical skills necessary to work in this specialized sector. To help meet these needs, Revielle and Neff focused their lecture on lessons learned from their recent experiences building two projects for Boulder County Housing Authority. Amanda Guthrie, Boulder County Housing Authority’s director of housing operations, who is also a DU faculty member, selected Revielle and Neff because of their work together on BCHA’s The Spoke on Coffman and the Willoughby Corner Neighborhood projects. The Spoke was a $32 million affordable development in Longmont constructed during the COVID-19 pandemic. Completed this past Deceber, the $83 million Willoughby development finished in budget and ahead of schedule despite a complex road and infrastructure package that saw continual city-initiated scope increases. Revielle and Neff also covered a variety of other topics including the importance of team building, approaches to providing best value through the preconstruction process, overcoming an unpredictable labor and materials market, and the differences between market-rate and affordable housing developments. This session represented module six of the University of Denver’s seven-phased Executive Certificate in Affordable Housing program, scheduled to finish in June 2025. The program is sponsored by the Franklin L. Burns School of Real Estate & Construction Management and the Rocky Mountain Land Use Institute. Applications for the next term, beginning September 2025, are currently being accepted until May 30. Apply here . • Tony Burke Looks Forward to the Next 60 Years of Pinkard

Tony Burke Looks Forward to the Next 60 Years of Pinkard Tony Burke Looks Forward to the Next 60 Years of Pinkard March 29, 2023 Share Share Pinkard turns 61 Today! At the beginning of the year, Jim Pinkard looked at the history of the company . Now, Tony looks to the future. As of March 30th, Pinkard Construction enters its 61st year serving Colorado senior living, affordable housing, multi-family, recreation, municipal, and commercial clients. Pinkard's President, Tony Burke, thought it was time to look at our future. Burke says the company’s leadership is armed with the wisdom and perspective gained by adapting and growing with this always-evolving construction and development market. “We march forward with a new generation of ownership, new leaders, and new branding,” says Burke. “These decisive changes represent a continuation of fundamental business practices but with a fresh new look and approach to the challenges and opportunities presented in the world of construction today.” Burke says that his leadership team recognizes the importance of changing stereotypes of who can participate in the construction industry. His view is that greater workforce diversity enhances the companies' ability to be creative and competitive and the industry needs to attract the workforce of tomorrow. Burke knows that the need for construction professionals is at an all-time high. A key priority for Burke is investing in Pinkard employees' ongoing development and creating an environment that retains talent. He feels that a company culture with opportunities for growth, stability, and work/life balance will also pay dividends in recruitment. “We aim to create an environment of belonging in our office and jobsites. This industry is a great place to make a living and should be inclusive and representative of our community,” explains Burke. “We strive daily to perform with our core values in mind, knowing that these qualities are the foundations of transparency and tenacity.” Burke also recognizes that mental health is an ongoing challenge within society, specifically in the construction industry. He says Pinkard will continue to expand employee benefits, build cultural supports, and engage with the entire construction industry to ensure a resilient Colorado workforce. “Pinkard's people are its greatest asset,” says Burke. “I feel a responsibility to ensure that our employees have mental health and counseling options as part of their benefits, are using technology that makes their jobs easier, and feel that they have the support from within the company to not only perform but thrive at Pinkard” Burke feels that this emphasis on the health and stability of Pinkard's workforce is the right thing to do, but also allows Pinkard to offer an unparalleled client experience. His teams have the capacity to be collaborative, provide good stewardship to their clients, produce exceptional quality, and add overall financial value to their projects. “Offering our employees the best tools possible not only helps them but offers our clients a greater degree of collaboration, clarity, and control over their project,” says Burke. “We want to provide our clients with a superior construction experience, in addition to the best value” Burke is optimistic when he thinks about the next 60 years of Pinkard. He says he feels that “Going into our 61st year, we are eager to share our excitement and enthusiasm with our friends, clients, and peers. We are thankful to be solidly rooted in the Colorado community and for the expertise of our creative and professional staff. Together we will build great teams, offer great solutions, and provide great value for all our current and future clients.” Learn More Anthony Burke, President Connect Our Projects Learn More Share This Story Share Share More News Sort By Topic Reset Pinkard Breaks Ground on Buchanan Rec Center Aquatics Expansion April 2, 2026 Learn More Pinkard Completes The Irving at Mile High Vista Affordable Apartments January 22, 2026 Learn More Pinkard and The Action Center Begin Emory School Transformation March 9, 2026 Learn More Pinkard 2025: The Year in Pictures December 30, 2025 Learn More Load More Our Approach Partner, Plan, BUILD.
