- Jacoby Meadows Senior Apartments | Pinkard Construction | Colorado
Pinkard provided expert construction services for Windsor Housing Authority on the Jacoby Meadows Senior Apartments project. Jacoby Meadows Senior Apartments Windsor Housing Authority 63,000 Affordable Housing, Senior Living Jacoby Meadows is a planned age-restricted (55+) affordable housing project that will serve low to moderate income seniors (30-80% of area median income). The first phase will include 50 one-bedroom rental units, and 12 two-bedroom rental units. The project is being developed in partnership with the Loveland Housing Authority, designed by WORKSHOP8 Architecture, and partially funded with nine percent competitive tax credits and Colorado funding from the State Affordable Housing Fund. The Windsor Housing Authority selected Pinkard Construction to build this 62-unit, 63,000 square foot, $17.5 million project. During preconstruction Pinkard provided tax credit funding acquisition assistance and collaborated with the owner/architect team to develop a construction phasing plan to optimize the schedule. Pinkard Frameworks, the company’s in-house framing division , worked with the architect to identify constructability issues in the permit plan set, including implementing an alternative to corridor framing that is more efficient to build at a lower cost. Frameworks also found a local supplier to single-source structural steel and specialty wood beams, and to provide shop drawings and materials, eliminating the inefficiency of coordinating multiple suppliers. - Pinkard Announces New Wood Framing Department, Makes Key Hires
Pinkard Announces New Wood Framing Department, Makes Key Hires Pinkard Announces New Wood Framing Department, Makes Key Hires 2023-08-18 Share Share Pinkard Construction is proud to announce the launch of its new Wood Framing Department, headed by Wood Framing Manager Dan Harris. Harris is a recent addition to Pinkard and has over 40 years of experience in construction. He brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to this new department. The Wood Framing Department has been established to provide in-house control of the framing process, ensuring critical elements work with all trades that rely on structural framing while prioritizing budget, safety, quality, and schedule for overall success. The department has already made its first key hire, Project Engineer Alexandra Caballero, who will assist Dan. Alexandra has four years of experience in construction and a BS from the University of South Florida. "Our clients need to know that we have skin in the game and have planned for our projects’ complete success. The Wood Framing Department is an essential part of that," said Tony Burke, President of Pinkard Construction. "Framing is essential to the critical path and we are not outsourcing our framing to an unrelated contractor who is not invested in the overall project outcome. We are in complete control of the labor, equipment, supervision, and materials. We bear the responsibility of purchasing and ensuring overall success." The Wood Frame Department is expanding and hiring new staff and the department will have access to the resources of the company's Self-Performance Department, including 22 superintendents, carpenters, foremen, and other full-time construction laborers. "Our services include comprehensive hold-down layout plans, in-house surveys, detailed framing scopes, confirmed rough openings, unit plan markups, and precise lumber usage notes. This guarantees that the work is executed correctly and efficiently, delivering unparalleled value," said Dan Harris. "Our framing superintendent, who is an experienced carpenter, is continuously updated throughout the design process. He is responsible for overseeing all material and labor to ensure that they conform to the contract's specifications." Harris says that the department is expected to grow and is in the process of hiring more qualified individuals that can help him offer Pinkard's clients, both old and new, a value-added service that will streamline the construction process. - Pinkard Carpenter Named Apprentice of the Year
Pinkard Carpenter Named Apprentice of the Year Pinkard Carpenter Named Apprentice of the Year 2025-05-19 Share Share Pinkard Construction’s Arturo Rivera was honored as the 2025 Carpentry Apprentice of the Year during the Construction Industry Training Council of Colorado, Inc.’s (CITC) graduation ceremony on Saturday, May 3. Arturo Rivera’s selection as Apprentice of the Year was the result of an intensive evaluation process that included ratings for leadership, attitude, attendance, participation, and commitment, as well as overall performance of the technical requirements of carpentry. He received a perfect score in the grading portion and took first place in the final carpentry competition at semester’s end. The final phase of selection included a 12-person committee evaluation from CITC’s Carpentry Trade Council members and two general contractor representatives. Pinkard hired Rivera as a carpenter’s apprentice in July 2021 and sponsored his on-the-job carpenter’s apprentice training and CITC instruction. His OJT was conducted on four major Denver-metro multi-family projects including, senior living and luxury market-rate housing. Rivera is currently a part of Pinkard Frameworks — Pinkard's in-house framing division — performing wood framing and window and siding installations at the contractor's Jacoby Meadows affordable housing project in Windsor. In addition to Rivera, fellow Pinkard carpenter Francisco Valadez Jr. was also in this year's CITC graduating class. CITC’s annual Apprentice of the Year award honors CITC’s outstanding apprentice performers from their State Apprenticeship Agency-certified four-year program, which covers carpentry, sheet metal, plumbing, electrical, pipe fitting, and masonry. As a part of his journeyman carpenter apprentice training, Rivera underwent 8,000 hours of on-the-job training with Pinkard, plus eight semesters (576 hours) of classroom-related instruction at CITC. Pinkard paid the full cost of training. ABOUT CITC Construction Industry Training Council of Colorado is the premier trade school for the commercial construction industry in Colorado. Apprenticeships are available for those interested in carpentry, electrical, masonry, pipefitting, plumbing, and sheet metal. Apprenticeship is a proven method to effectively train craft and journey workers. CITC’s students become highly skilled through classes and labs. - Project Rewind: Innovation and Technology at South College Avenue Parking Garage
Project Rewind: Innovation and Technology at South College Avenue Parking Garage Project Rewind: Innovation and Technology at South College Avenue Parking Garage 2025-04-08 Share Share It was early summer of 2016, and Pinkard was on track to hit the contracted July 12 completion date on South College Avenue Parking Garage, a 222,000 square foot, 662-car, four-story precast structure on the southeast corner of the Colorado State University campus. A design-build partnership between Pinkard Construction, H+L Architecture and Pittsburgh-based parking structure specialists Carl Walker Construction, the final design for the $15.2 M project featured numerous innovations, including state-of-the-art parking technologies, electric vehicle charging stations (a rarity in 2016), an advanced LED lighting system that improves pedestrian safety while reducing energy and maintenance costs, and a bioswale rain garden that filters out pollutants naturally and directs the clean storm water into the city system. During preconstruction the team provided exceptional value enhancement solutions, such as adding a “Mondrian-patterned” precast element for design variety and cost savings over a stone clad wall and hydraulic elevators with glass doors and backs instead of the more costly four-sided glass traction-elevator cabs. After breaking ground Pinkard had implemented creative field solutions and manpower adjustments to overcome numerous unforeseen conditions, including excessive groundwater and subgrade structural modifications. Then, more than midway through the project, CSU handed the design-build team a new challenge: can we add rooftop solar panels? With the fall semester approaching, Pinkard sprang into action to price and procure the owner addition, which would require rooftop structural modifications to allow for the addition of a solar array. Thanks to the team’s swift action, the approved scope addition was able to begin construction in June and stretch into late August, just in time for classes to begin. Ultimately, the South College Avenue Parking Garage was completed under budget and ahead of schedule. CSU points to this project and experience as a shining example of the design-build approach at its best, informing the university’s specific procurement of new projects going forward, and leading them to be less prescriptive, and to rely more on the expertise and innovation that design-build teams are capable of delivering when given the opportunity.
