- Pinkard Commits to Building a Welcoming and Inclusive Industry
Pinkard Commits to Building a Welcoming and Inclusive Industry Pinkard Commits to Building a Welcoming and Inclusive Industry 2024-03-04 Share Share The construction industry is facing a worker shortage, and Colorado is no exception. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the state will need 45,000 new workers in the construction industry by 2027. In response to this challenge, Pinkard Construction has committed to building a more welcoming and inclusive industry. "At Pinkard, we believe that treating everyone with dignity and making a workplace of inclusion and belonging is the right thing to do," said Jeff Kessler, Pinkard's Director of HR. "We need to attract and retain workers from all walks of life, and that means creating a workplace that welcomes everyone." To that end, Pinkard Construction has signed the AGC's Culture of Care Pledge and has formed its own committee to actively contemplate, study, and implement the CARE principles. "Our committee includes members from across the organization, and we meet regularly to discuss ways in which we can continue to make improvements across the organization that will strengthen the organization and help us build the workforce of tomorrow," Kessler said. The CARE principles include committing to hiring and paying based on skill and experience, regardless of age, disability status, ethnicity, gender identity, nationality, race, religion, sex, or sexual orientation. They also include attracting prospective employees by creating inclusive workplaces that are free from harassment, hazing, and bullying and retaining high-performing employees by identifying and removing barriers to advancement. "We are committed to creating a workplace where everyone feels valued and respected," said Tanya Navarro, Pinkard's HR Generalist. "We want to empower every employee to promote a culture of diversity and inclusion." The construction industry has historically struggled with diversity and inclusion, but Pinkard Construction is committed to leading the way in building a more welcoming and inclusive industry. "As an industry, we need to be able to attract workers from all walks of life, and that means building an industry that is welcoming and inclusive," Kessler said. "We need to retain our workers by paying them based on merit and taking care of their health and well-being. By doing so, we can build a stronger industry that will benefit everyone." - Pinkard Tops Out at Jacoby Meadows
Pinkard Tops Out at Jacoby Meadows Pinkard Tops Out at Jacoby Meadows 2025-03-24 Share Share Pinkard Construction has topped out Windsor Housing Authority’s (WHA) Jacoby Meadows Senior Affordable Apartments. Developed in partnership with the Loveland Housing Authority (LHA) and WORKSHOP8 Architecture, the two-phased project initially creates 62 age-restricted units serving low to moderate income seniors. The second phase, which is still seeking funding, will add an additional 61 units. Despite several early challenging unforeseen conditions and numerous inclement weather days the project is still on time and in budget, thanks in part to some creative construction brainstorming and a state-of-the-art approach to wood framing. During the sewer tie-in phase, construction crews encountered an unexpected “bedrock-like layer” that stopped just short of requiring blasting to penetrate. During the actual sewer tie-ins, unexpected groundwater became an additional concern, requiring an extended dewatering phase. Fortunately, Pinkard Frameworks — Pinkard's in-house wood framing division — provided exceptional construction efficiencies to keep the project on track. Tasked with providing more than 63,000 sf of framing, the Frameworks team began an exhaustive constructability and quality control effort during preconstruction, thoroughly vetting the framing design for layout, detailing, fit and finish. Procurement and site logistics were also high priorities, resulting in the team making expeditious progress from the start of construction and completing most of the framing in less than two months, even with 13 weather days. “I can’t say enough about Frameworks’ contribution to this construction effort,” says Terry Wevers, Pinkard’s senior superintendent. “They are going above and beyond to provide exceptional framing services in a remarkably short time frame. Considering our early challenges, we are delighted to be on time and in budget, and we’re expecting to make up even more time now that we’re dried in.” Eric Hull, Director of Real Estate Development for Loveland Housing Authority, commented: “LHA and WHA are thrilled with the construction progress to date, and Pinkard Construction is once again demonstrating why they have become such a trusted general contractor for us. Their dedication, expertise, and innovative construction techniques have the project on schedule and within budget despite some unforeseen challenges in the first few months of construction. We are looking forward to the grand opening of Jacoby Meadows later this year and for the opportunity to bring these much-needed new, affordable, age-restricted housing units to the Windsor community.” Pinkard is now moving forward with roofing, MEP rough-ins, and window quality control. Construction is expected to complete on time in September. * Windsor Housing Authority (WHA) is a public agency that helps people who meet income and other eligibility guidelines, secure affordable, safe and quality housing in the town of Windsor. WHA currently offers two affordable housing developments: Windsor Meadows, an 80-unit apartment complex and Century III Apartments, a 62-unit community for individuals 62 and over and those with disabilities. In addition to creating affordable housing opportunities for low- and moderate-income residents of Loveland, the Loveland Housing Authority (LHA) mentors and helps other housing authorities as part of their mission to provide and maintain obtainable housing. By partnering with the LHA, the WHA can utilize their experience, expertise, services and partner network to provide housing opportunities for the Windsor area. Led by Joseph Vigil and Brandy LeMae, Boulder-based WORKSHOP8 Architecture helps clients create homes, workspaces, apartment buildings, and art. WORKSHOP8’s dedicated team of designers relies on WORKSHOP8’s eight values of ARTISTRY, COLLABORATION, EXPLORATION, INTEGRITY, LEADERSHIP, PASSION, SUSTAINABILITY, and VIABILITY to serve our mission to INSPIRE, ENRICH, and TRANSFORM lives through GR8 design. The structure has retail space and commercial offices with parking 2 stories underground and 6 stories above. - A Culture of Safety Excellence
A Culture of Safety Excellence A Culture of Safety Excellence 2024-05-10 Share Share At Pinkard Construction, safety is not just a core value, it’s the central focus of everything we do. “Safety is not just a priority, it's the priority ,” says Safety Manager David Ruddy, better known on the jobsite as Safety Dave. Dave is a passionate advocate for creating a culture of safety that extends beyond the workplace. “For me, safety comes down to one thing: your why. For most of us, that’s our loved ones. Working safe, for us and for everyone around us, means coming home healthy and whole every single day.” That’s why Safety Dave rejects the old saying “Safety First,” instead preaching the mantra, “Family first, safety always.” Dave continues: “We want to make sure that everyone who works for us knows that their safety is key to the success of our company. And it means making sure that everyone else on our jobsite—fellow workers, neighbors, passers-by and visitors to the site—do too.” Rather than simply policing safety violations, Pinkard believes that creating a positive culture of safety is the key to ensuring everyone on the job site stays safe. “We want to create a culture where safety is not just a set of rules and regulations, but an integral part of the way we work,” Dave explains. “We make sure people know their ‘why’ and then we equip them with the best possible training. We create processes and procedures that make it easy to work safely. Everyone must feel empowered to speak up if they see something that is not safe.” In addition to physical safety, Pinkard is also committed to promoting mental health awareness and providing associated resources for its employees. "We recognize that mental health is just as important as physical health. The construction industry has an alarming rate of suicide. That must change. We want our employees to know that it's important to talk about mental health and that we're here to support them." To help promote holistic wellness, Pinkard has partnered with You Turn Health to provide employees 24/7 access to supportive services for stress, anxiety, depression, substance abuse and suicidal ideation. “Almost all of us have experienced losing a loved one,” says Dave. “Sometimes there’s nothing that could have been done to prevent it, but we are committed to making sure that preventable injuries and deaths never happen on our watch.” Learn More Our Team Learn More Share This Story Share Share More News Sort By Topic Reset Willoughby Corner: BCHA's Landmark Affordable Housing Development 2025-07-15 Learn More Pinkard Completes Bay Aquatic Park On Time and Under Budget 2025-07-07 Learn More Project Rewind: Prioritizing the Needs of 275 Seniors at Clermont Park 2025-07-09 Learn More Pinkard Tops Out Phase III of The Edge 2025-06-25 Learn More Load More Our Approach Partner, Plan, BUILD. See the Project Coming Up With VE Solutions "Pinkard came to the table a little better than the architect did as far as coming up with VE solutions" See the Project You Guys Over Perform In Every Area "I'm going to be completely honest. I will say that to me-- I can't speak for anyone else in this city. This is just for myself only. To me, you guys over-perform in every area, every expectation that I have." See the Project Worked Hard To Come Up With Solutions ".... [The] team worked really hard to come up with solutions that would get us where we needed to be dollar wise and that wouldn't compromise the design intent too much" See the Project Great Taking On Unexpected Challenges Your superintendent Mike Rife really did a wonderful job.
